Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf challah or brioche bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 cup assorted chopped nuts walnuts, pistachios, or almonds
  • ½ cup honey divided
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ½ cup phyllo dough thawed and cut into small pieces (optional)
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  • Spread half of the bread cubes in the baking dish, sprinkle with half of the nuts, and drizzle with half of the melted butter and honey.
  • Layer the remaining bread cubes, nuts, melted butter, and honey on top.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the dish, pressing down on the bread to soak it.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  • Bake covered for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool for a few minutes, slice into squares, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with extra honey before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, serve with fresh berries or whipped cream.
