  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup bell peppers diced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes 14 oz
  • 1 cup sugar-free pizza sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage until browned.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sauté until the onion is translucent.
  • Incorporate the diced bell peppers and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Pour in the crushed tomatoes and pizza sauce, then add the seasonings and stir.
  • Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch casserole dish and spread evenly.
