  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for glazing
  • 2 tablespoons milk for glazing
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for glazing

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
